From robots to rock ’n ’roll, MoPOP presents a wide variety of exciting exhibitions, programs, and educational opportunities to audiences in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. As a volunteer, you’ll join a leading-edge nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing meaningful pop culture experiences to a community of fans, educators, students, and more.

Our volunteers spread enthusiasm for pop culture through exhibit interpretation, information desk attendance, interactive support, event assistance, and much more. If you have a passion for pop culture — or you simply want to get involved — we want you to be a part of our community. Your expertise helps us engage guests and promote a passion for pop culture.

MoPOP Volunteer Program Common Questions

What is the volunteer time commitment?
Due to training demands, we ask for a minimum 6-month commitment at two shifts a month. Many volunteers prefer weekly shifts. Shifts are generally 9:45am–1:00pm and 12:45pm–4:00 pm.  In the summer months, we add a 3:45pm–7:00pm shift.

What are the perks of volunteering?
There are many! Volunteers can visit MoPOP with a guest for free while active. We also schedule regular exhibit previews and other learning opportunities. The best benefit of all is the chance to be part of a community of fellow volunteers who are all passionate about MoPOP and pop culture!

Do you provide parking?
Yes. We provide a parking coupon for the Seattle Center parking lots for volunteer shifts.

What areas of the museum do volunteers help in?
Currently, volunteers are focused on the guest experience and are positioned in our museum public-facing spaces. In the future, we may expand to other facets of the museum.

What is the age requirement?
Each volunteer position is different, though generally 16 is our age minimum. Check individual position descriptions to see if the role is 16+ or 18+.

Do you verify service-learning hours for school?
Yes! We are happy to verify service-learning hours.

How do I apply?
Please fill out the volunteer application. Should your background, availability, and interest meet our needs, we will be in touch about an interview. All MoPOP volunteers must successfully complete a background and reference check.

Do you accommodate group volunteering?
Currently, our volunteer program cannot accommodate group volunteering.
