Museum of Pop Culture Announces Leadership Transition

Leading Nonprofit Institution to Begin Broad Search for New Executive Director

SEATTLE (JUNE 28, 2022) – Museum of Pop Culture Executive Director Alexis Lee today announced she is stepping down from the organization after more than five years. Lee is departing to pursue a new professional opportunity and her last day at MoPOP will be July 8, 2022. The Board of Directors announced a transition plan while thanking Lee for her service to MoPOP.

"I am deeply humbled, proud, and grateful for the entire experience, and all that we accomplished together. It is remarkable that our team set a viable and sustainable foundation for the organization even while weathering the pandemic. The organization is ready as ever for the future. It has been an honor to serve as the executive director of MoPOP through many of the organization's momentous and largest changes in its history," said Lee.

"We are so grateful to Alexis and for the transformational change that occurred under her leadership," said MoPOP Board of Directors President Shaunta Hyde. "The organization is in a strong position to continue delivering on our mission to make creative expression a life-changing force and to create quality, accessible programming that reaches people across our communities."

The board announced they will embark on a nationwide search for MoPOP's next leader over the coming months. During the search, the board has appointed Jennifer Chu, the organization's finance director, as interim executive director, and Ste Marchio, MoPOP's director of people + culture, as interim deputy executive director.

"MoPOP has not only weathered the pandemic, but we have flourished, producing incredible new content and exhibitions," said Chu. "We are both excited and well-positioned to continue our important work of preserving pop culture history, creating community, and inspiring the next generation."

"This organization's strength is rooted in our amazing staff and our dedicated supporters," said Marchio. "Alexis is leaving a robust institution ready to take action in its evolution."
