MOPOP Fashionably Undead Entry Policy

Disclaimer: The Museum of Pop Culture and its staff will interpret and apply this policy fairly, consistently, and in good faith to all visitors and event attendees, without discrimination and in accordance with applicable Washington law and legally protected classifications.

Footwear must be worn at all times, except where an individual cannot wear shoes because of a disability, medical condition, use of a medical prosthetic or mobility aid, or other reason protected by applicable law (“Protected Condition”).
Costumes must fit through a single standard doorway, meaning no more than eighty-five and one-half inches (85.5") tall by thirty-six inches (36") wide, measured at the tallest and widest points of the costume as worn. This size limit applies only to costume elements; it does not apply to, and will not be used to deny entry to, wheelchairs, mobility aids, service animals, or other accommodations.
All costume materials (including costumes adorned with metal decoration or adornment) must comply with MOPOP’s on-site health, safety, and facility policies, which are applied objectively and consistently to all guests. MOPOP will consider reasonable, nondiscriminatory modifications to these requirements for Protected Conditions.
For the safety of all guests and the facility, costumes may not include items that present fire, injury, or facility-hazard risks such as: glass elements, pyrotechnics, open flame or fire, smoke, steam, fog, helium balloons, loose glitter, and natural florals or live plants. A guest who requires an otherwise-restricted item for a Protected Condition may request a reasonable modification.
Costumes and attire must keep the breasts (including the areola and nipple), buttocks, genitals, and pubic area fully covered with opaque material. Body paint may not be applied in place of clothing to satisfy the opaque coverage required above.
Costumes or attire that harass, threaten, or incite violence against others, or that a reasonable person would find to create a hostile or harassing environment on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law, are not permitted. This policy does not restrict, and will not be enforced to penalize, religious or cultural attire, natural hair, protective hairstyles, or a person's gender identity or expression. MOPOP will provide reasonable modifications to these costume and coverage requirements for religious, cultural, gender-expression, disability, medical, or pregnancy-related reasons.
Functional weapons of any kind, including firearms, edged weapons, and any item capable of operating as a weapon, are strictly prohibited.
No prop, replica, or realistic-looking firearms.
Costume props are for display purposes only and must be “peace bonded (physically restrained so the prop cannot be removed, drawn, or deployed)” and secured to the person or costume in a way that the prop cannot be drawn, swung, or brandished as a weapon.
All simulated projectile costume elements must be rendered permanently inoperable (incapable of launching or discharging any projectile) and must comply with this costume policy.
Costume weapons are subject to inspection at the security station, located at the event's entrance. After inspection, a costume weapon that complies with this policy may be tagged with a wristband solely to confirm it has been inspected; inspection records and tags will not be used to collect or retain personally identifiable information beyond what is necessary for event safety and will be discarded at the end of the event.
If a costume weapon does not meet requirements, event staff will first give the attendee a reasonable opportunity to correct the issue. For example, by securing, modifying, or storing the item. An attendee who, after supervisor review, remains unwilling to have a costume weapon inspected or tagged, or to otherwise comply with these requirements, may be asked to secure the item, return it to a vehicle, or leave the premises.
Costume prosthetics, including artificial limbs, horns, claws, facial enhancements, and other decorative or theatrical accessories, are permitted if they comply with MOPOP’s costume and safety policies. Medical prosthetics, mobility aids, canes, communication devices, other medical or disability-related devices, service animals, and religious or cultural items are not costume props are permitted as a Protected Condition.

Note: Attendees needing a modification to any part of this policy may request a reasonable modification and MOPOP will not require disclosure of a disability or medical condition beyond what is necessary to provide the modification. Any necessary safety screening will be conducted reasonably, respectfully, and without discrimination, with appropriate accommodations under applicable law.
