Our homeschool families love to learn at the museum! MoPOP offers a unique opportunity for homeschooled students and their families to participate in thematic, hands-on experiences centered on the museum’s exhibits and content.
Each homeschool day features a different student-centered workshop led by a professional teaching artist, a guided gallery experience, and free time to explore our exciting and interactive exhibits. Your family will be encouraged to work together, ask questions, and engage with our museum’s content.

Scratch and Make: Game and Controller Design in Action!
Join educator and coding expert Melissa Wrenchey for an exploration of programming and controller design! Students will learn to code their own projects using Scratch (a free programming platform developed by the MIT Media Lab) and then use Makey Makey to design an original controller for their project. We’ll take these tools one step further by using Scratch’s new 3.0 Beta version (available for free at https://beta.scratch.mit.edu/) which includes enhanced programming capabilities and can also operate on tablets and other devices.
We encourage all participants to explore the resources below ahead of the workshop on the 20th.

We are also finalizing plans for a special Halloween program on October 18. We will offer two 3-hour classes that day, one on costume design and one on stage makeup effects. We’ll let you know as soon as this program is finalized and tickets are available! Perfect for planning (or finalizing) your Halloween, Comic Con, or fancy dress party costumes!

3-D Comic Design
Join local comic artist Jen Vaughn to explore the world of comic books! Jen will share her experiences as a professional comic artist and introduce you to some of the basics of comic art. You’ll apply engineering principles to design clothing for a 3-D paper version of your character and create tri-fold backgrounds for your story. Gather inspiration from MARVEL: Universe of Super Hero exhibit (requires additional $4 fee, to be paid on the day of the program) and prepare for a super day!
There's a chance we will need to reschedule our November Homeschool Day to November 13 due to a large MoPOP event. If that is the case, we will notify you immediately of the change and adjust your registration as needed.
