The upcoming Guitar Gallery exhibit is a re-build of the museum’s previous Guitar Gallery. It will feature multiple guitars from different decades and owners. MoPOP seeks an intern to help with the assembly of casework, disassembling the current gallery space, prepping the space for the upcoming exhibit, and then installing the new Guitar Gallery. This is a scalable internship with opportunities to continue expanding on light fabrication skills.

Job Duties:

  • Precisely assemble aluminum framework
  • Assist fabricators in finishing casework
  • Assist installers with the preparation and installation of the gallery
  • Other duties as assigned

Learning Opportunities

  • This is an excellent opportunity to learn the exhibit installation process while gaining hands-on experience
  • The intern will gain experience in light fabrication, hand tools, painting, and shop terminology

Position Requirements

  • Current community college, vocational school, college, or graduate student ideally pursuing construction or museum fabrication coursework or career
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of the MoPOP—passion for guitars a plus!
  • Comfortable working independently and in groups
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter
  • Willingness to work in dusty shop environments while following instruction
  • Ability to occasionally lift 20-40 pounds

Work may require long periods of sustained standing during exhibit installation and strike. Position requires travel between museum and exhibit shop. The intern is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The intern is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
