'It's Coming From Inside the House!': Watch 'The Return of the Living Dead' With MoPOP + Special Guest Nikko Hurtado!
It's Coming from Inside the House!, the Museum of Pop Culture's horror film watchalong, is expanding its list of 100 Horror Films To See Before You Die. Working with our horror community we'll dig back into the list, see what we missed, and explore how we can start the work of updating the list every year to include the best the horror genre has wrought from the depths of darkness.

Each watchalong we'll have a new guest pick a film to watch that they feel deserves a spot on the list as it expands, and they'll join the watchalong to make the case for its inclusion.
At 7 p.m. PT this Friday, August 21, MoPOP Manager of Public Engagement Robert Rutherford is joined by special guest, tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado, who started Black Anchor Collective and is a featured artist in MoPOP’s Body of Work: Tattoo Culture exhibition. Nikko chose this week’s selection, The Return of the Living Dead, an instant cult classic when it was released in 1985 that broadened the scope of the zombie subgenre by introducing zombies that run, are incredibly hard to kill, and are very particular about their food preferences.
Here are a handful of program elements that you can expect to see:
- Pre-film introduction with Robert Rutherford, MoPOP's Manager of Public Engagement, and special guest, tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado
- Cheap-as-heck quarantine cosplay
- Cocktails, mocktails, and beer pairing recommendations
- Cocktail pairing – There's no reason to let being dead get in the way of you feeling fancy. Mix yourself an Undead Gentleman and mind your manners!
- Mocktail pairing – An alcohol-free take on the Zombie cocktail, made famous by Don the Beachcomber
- Beer pairing – Grab a can of NPFO Pilsner from Future Primitive to get in the punk rock spirit. If you know the classic acronym, sing it loud and proud!
- Chat with the Robert and Nikko and other fans during the film
- Post-film discussion on why The Return of the Living Dead deserves a spot on our list of 100+ Horror Films to See Before You Die
