'It's Coming From Inside the House!': Watch 'The Invitation' With MoPOP!

At 7 p.m. PT this Friday, April 17 on It's Coming from Inside the House!, the Museum of Pop Culture's weekly horror film watchalong, MoPOP Manager of Public Engagement Robert Rutherford and special guest Isabella Price, host of Northwest Film Forum's horror show Nocturnal Emissions, celebrate Karyn Kusama's dinner party gone horribly awry, The Invitation.

  • Important: For this week's watchalong we're asking our audience to register in advance. Before we begin on Friday, invites will be sent out via e-mail to join the discussion!

Kusama's mastery is on full display in scenes where social rules collide with horrific intent. Intimate, awkward, jolly, and terrifying, Kusama navigates the natural flow of surface conversation while never losing track of the more visceral motivations lurking inside the characters. The Invitation comes in at No. 98 on MoPOP's list of 100 Horror Films to See Before You Die.

Here are a handful of program elements that you can expect to see this Friday night:

  • Pre-film introduction from Robert Rutherford, MoPOP's Manager of Public Engagement, and Isabella Price, host of horror podcast Nocturnal Emissions, including exclusive interview excerpts with Karyn Kusama from MoPOP's Scared to Death: The Thrill of Horror Film exhibition.
  • Spotlight on other female horror filmmakers
  • Cocktails, mocktails, and beer pairing recommendations
  • Chat with Robert, Isabella, and other fans during the film
  • Post-film discussion on the film's themes, Kusama's body of work and its influence on the genre

If you happen to own a copy of the film, get it queued up at 7 p.m. PT this Friday! Otherwise, here's where you can find The Invitation online:

So download or dust off your copy and reserve your spot by registering on our Movies at MoPOP page to get your invitation!
