The Nominees

1984

This dystopian classic has never gone out of style in its near 70 years on the shelves and was even number one on Amazon’s Bestseller list in 2017.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Complete with a strong and charming female lead, Buffy the Vampire Slayer staked the hearts of TV fans for seven seasons.

Godzilla

A prehistoric sea monster created by nuclear radiation, Godzilla is the poster child for the mid-century monster movie and still inspires filmmakers today.

Legend of Zelda

This high-fantasy adventure series was released in 1986 and includes 19 games across Nintendo’s game consoles and one really useful ocarina.

Watchmen

Written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons, Watchmen is a deconstructed super hero story set primarily in an alternative version of the 1980s. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it used emojis before emojis.

George Clinton’s eclectic style of funk music, which grew to popularity in the 1970s, drew inspiration from science fiction, psychedelic culture, and surrealism.

Neil Gaiman

This Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker award-winning author is known for books like American Gods and Coraline as well as the Sandman comics series.

Stan Lee

Everybody knows Stan Lee, but just in case you live in an alternate dimension, he’s the visionary behind many of Marvel comics most beloved characters including Spider-Man, Black Panther, and the X-Men.

J. K. Rowling

This author is responsible for giving us the Harry Potter series, so we owe her.

The Wachowskis

The Wachowskis are the visionary filmmakers behind The Matrix series, Jupiter Ascending, and the mind bender Cloud Atlas.
