Pokémon Day Celebrates 25 Years of the Franchise With Virtual Concert

Has it really been 25 years? This weekend, the Pokémon franchise will celebrate its quarter-decade run with a live virtual concert headlined by Post Malone. The day — Saturday, February 27, 2021 — marks 25 years since Pokémon Red and Green launched in Japan. This past week in a sneak preview of the Pokémon Day concert, Malone and Pokémon released a cover of the '90s classic "Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie and the Blowfish, which Malone will also perform this Saturday.

Malone's concert will kick off a yearlong offering from the Pokémon franchise called P25 Music, a program that promises to commemorate Pokémon video games, mobile apps, and more with artist-involved content throughout 2021. Also on event day, Pokémon plans to release a curated selection of music-themed episodes from the Pokémon animated series on Pokémon TV, which you can check out on the web or by downloading the app.

The Pokémon Day concert streams for free beginning at 4 p.m. PST on Saturday, February 27 on YouTube, Twitch, and Pokemon.com/25.
